Total Knee Replacement Performed 5 Years Ago. Cement Had Come Undo Have To Have Another Tkr. I Need Advice.?
Total Knee Replacement performed 5 years ago. Cement had come undo have to have another TKR. I need advice.?
In my 40’s, after 4 surgeries and lot’s of knee pain my DR (after many DR opinions) a Total Knee Replacement was performed nearly 5 years ago. Last year I began experiencing bad pain in same knee. DR took xray and said the cement that held the knee replacement together was gone, it had dislodged. Occasionally with people in my age group this apparently can happen. It is taken 100’s of phone calls (I have excellent coverage but insurance companies suck). This is through State Farm because I was hit head on (their fault) that the DR said caused the deteriation of the knee. I even have an Attorney. My knee hurts so bad I can barely walk and can not work. Any suggestions? I am really upset, in a terrible mood, and getting depressed although they put me on anti-depressants (joke) and my husband won’t let me take pain pills because he says I can just tolerate it and he won’t live it.
Just be prepared to have more knee surgeries. This is the thing with TKRs-they are more prone to complications than total hips. My opinion is you underwent TKR very early at 40. Lots of luck to you.
I answered this question earlier, so I am not sure if I didn’t give you what you were looking for or if you didn’t get it, but this is what I said…
Get your knee replaced again. I am sure that you knew you would have to have more than one since you are only in your 40’s. I have had 13 knee surgeries, so I know the kind of pain and discomfort you are in. You have done all the right things and taken all the right steps…you are very proactive and that is the most important thing. Don’t listen to your husband about the pain pills. If you need them to improve the quality of your life, you should take them. He is not in pain. I would tell him to shove it if I were you. If it hurts so bad that you cannot work and have trouble walking, you deserve to have every opportunity to ease that pain. Good luck to you.
