Is It Normal To Have Numbness And Swelling 2 Months After A Total Knee Replacement?
PF, when one gets a total knee replacement there are so many things that go on. The bone is ground out and then a prosthesis is placed into the bone and that alone is going to cause pain for a while. So when the pain goes down other problems seem to crop up. The swelling is dependent upon how much you are using the leg and how much movement and strength are in the knee. The more the movement and strength the less swelling there usually is. As for the numbness that can take up to a year to find out if there is return there. The orthopedist cut through the skin where the nerves are located and as careful as they were it is almost impossible to see them. If the nerve is lined up correctly after the procedure it will regenerate but it is going to take months. The regrowth will be so slow that you may not even notice it until one day you realize that it is back. One the other hand if it doesn’t come back there are so many other nerves in the skin of the thigh that they will take over. The area will feel slightly different but you will not notice a great change. Give it a chance as it is still very early in the recovery stage. A nerve grows at about one inch per month so you have a while to wait.

Continued Fluid Buildup Months After A Knee Replacement.?
In Nov 2006, I had a complete knee replacement. Good results and 8 weeks of therapy. There is limited pain but the problem is the buildup of fluid on my replacement knee. The Dr. aspirates my knee about every 3-6 months and draws several ounces of fluid (pink to dark red). The x-rays show everything as it should be. The Dr. says there is nothing he can do surgically. I do take Coumadin and the Dr. says this is the problem. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Almost 2 Months After A Total Knee Replacement Is It Normal For My Knee To Still Be Red And Hot?
Not really pain just uncomfortable from heat. I keep ice on it as much as possible but the ice pack does not seem to stay cold for long because my knee is so hot. Does this sound normal?
