You do not walk into a replacement knee operation, just like that! First this operation carries pain and you need to be motivated. In other words if you are not willing to put up with the pain you have now, before the knee surgery, chances are you are not going to put up with the pain of the operation, let alone getting the new knee to work. Therefore they tend to leave it until it is ‘really’ needed, so you will appreciate the replacement and have the motivation to use the new knee. That is why they say ‘You need a new knee, but are too young’. In other words, you have life left in what you have left, so they have you on a list, could be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, years wait. Best of Luck
It is is not a question of young at the age of 42yrs.Since our relative got operated at the age of about40 yrs. it is not for knee replacement but wearing out of bones in the knee joints However one suggestion is that you do not get operated both the knees at a time.even after operation 75 percent result.
I do think it’s to young except if you’ve had a lot of damage to your knee. Sports injuries. Falls etc. If you’re having a lot of pain and trouble walking I think you should get more than one or even two opinions. Then if they all say the same you might want to consider it. You heal faster and bounce back better at the younger age. Good luck
I would think it doesn’t matter what your age is, if surgery is necessary. If you had appendicitis and they thought you were too young, would they just NOT do surgery???
